The St. Joseph Fighting Irish will be playing in front of their home fans against the Riverside Bulldogs at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
Last Monday, it was a hard-fought contest, but St. Joseph had to settle for a 41-39 defeat against West Bolivar. St. Joseph has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Riverside has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 25 points or more this season. They blew past Leland 57-32. Given Riverside's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 59th, while Leland is ranked 219th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Riverside got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Otis Williams out in front who scored 12 points along with 5 assists. Jordan Wilson was another key contributor, scoring 8 points along with 10 rebounds and 3 blocks.
St. Joseph's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Riverside, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
St. Joseph didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Riverside in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, but they still walked away with a 53-47 victory. Will St. Joseph repeat their success, or does Riverside have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
