Softball Recap: Fort Payne Has No Trouble Against Gadsden City

Fort Payne had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Gadsden City on Friday. The Fort Payne Wildcats blew past the Gadsden City Titans 11-3. Considering the Wildcats have won four games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Harleigh Morgan and Olivia Lee were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Morgan struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Lee pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. At bat, Morgan went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base, while Lee scored a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carley Cash, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 4-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Baylee Green, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4.

Fort Payne kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gadsden City only managed seven hits.

Fort Payne's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-6. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Gadsden City, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-14.

Fort Payne didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 4-2 defeat against Boaz on the 17th. As for Gadsden City, they will welcome Ragland at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Gadsden City has given up an average of 11 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
