It was a good run, but the Grafton Bearcats unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 38-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of Robert C. Byrd. Grafton has struggled against the Eagles recently, as their game on Thursday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Grafton saw an underclassman step up: Kenna Keener dropped a double-double on 11 points and 17 rebounds. Keener hasn't dropped below two blocks for 12 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kambree Delaney, who scored six points.
Even though they lost, Grafton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Robert C. Byrd only pulled down three offensive rebounds.
Martina Howe continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Robert C. Byrd, scoring 20 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Kyla Sutherlin, who scored five points along with seven steals.
Grafton's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-6. As for Robert C. Byrd, their win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-5.
Grafton will take on the Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Lincoln focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Thursday. As for Robert C. Byrd, they will head out on the road to square off against the Titans at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Gilmer County will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line.
