The Saint Viator Lions will head out to challenge the Buffalo Grove Bison at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Saint Viator is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak.
On Monday, Saint Viator didn't have quite enough to beat IC Catholic Prep and fell 7-6.
Maggie Ratzki was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one triple. Kayli Burke also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Buffalo Grove). Everything went their way against Rolling Meadows on Monday as they made off with a 15-3 victory. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Bison with their most commanding win of the season.
Sammie Kosnoff spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on two hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Erin Ryan, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayley Cohen, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Buffalo Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Buffalo Grove is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Saint Viator, their loss dropped their record down to 8-14.
Buffalo Grove's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Saint Viator hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. It's a different story for Buffalo Grove, though, as they've only averaged .249. Will they be able to contain Saint Viator's hitters?
Saint Viator suffered a grim 14-4 defeat to Buffalo Grove in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
