If the North Salinas Vikings were riding high off their 63-34 takedown of the Greenfield Bruins on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. North Salinas fell 67-58 to Rancho San Juan on Saturday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Jaiden Gomez and Andre Lizaola certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Gomez scored 15 points, while Lizaola scored 11 points along with 7 rebounds. Lizaola is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of David Jauregui, who scored 7 points.
Rancho San Juan's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Trey Sanks led the charge by scoring 21 points along with 6 assists and 6 rebounds. The contest was Sanks' third in a row with at least ten points. Joseph Marsh was another key contributor, scoring 8 points along with 13 rebounds and 4 blocks.
North Salinas' loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Rancho San Juan, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
North Salinas will be playing in front of their home fans against North Monterey County at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Rancho San Juan, they will head out on the road to face off against Everett Alvarez at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
