Western Hills is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Henry County is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Wolverines will host the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Western Hills is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
While Western Hills' win against Carroll County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wolverines skirted past the Panthers 8-7.
Western Hills let Gavin Murphy and Owen Woodson run wild. Murphy went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI, while Woodson went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Woodson has posted since back in May of 2024. Cole Semones was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Henry County unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of Carroll County by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Wildcats have suffered since March 24th.
Sawyer Yates was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Baylor Nolin was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Kaiden Wilson, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Henry County's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 9-1 and their overall record down to 11-11. As for Western Hills, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 18-10.
Wednesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Western Hills has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .458. However, it's not like Henry County struggles in that department as they've averaged .434. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
