The Montgomery Aztecs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Olympian Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Thursday, Montgomery beat Hilltop 23-14. The win was just what Montgomery needed coming off of a 55-20 defeat in their prior game.
Montgomery found their leader in underclassman Andie Deanda, who rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries, and also threw for 244 yards and two touchdowns. Deanda really tore up the turf during one magnificent 80-yard run. Zantez Thomas was another key contributor, picking up 77 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Olympian fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They came out on top against Sweetwater by a score of 35-26 on Friday.
Olympian's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jake Marcial, who picked up 93 receiving yards and a touchdown, and Jayden Fuentes, who threw for 209 yards and three touchdowns on only 18 passes. Olympian also got help from Aj Cadriel who showed off his sure hands for 87 receiving yards.
Montgomery's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Olympian, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Montgomery took their victory against Olympian when the teams last played back in October of 2022 by a conclusive 22-0. Will Montgomery repeat their success, or does Olympian have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
