The Pinewood Prep Panthers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 74-25 loss at the hands of Northwood Academy. While losing is never fun, Pinewood Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 192nd, while Northwood Academy is ranked sixth).
Northwood Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from alayah birch, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 15 rebounds. Birch is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Virginia Byrd was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with three steals.
Pinewood Prep dropped their record down to 1-14 with that loss, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Northwood Academy, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 15-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pinewood Prep will face off against First Baptist School at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Northwood Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Hilton Head Prep at 1:00 p.m. on January 20th. Hilton Head Prep is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
