Newton won the last time they faced Charleston and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Eagles walked away with a 2-0 win over the Trojans. The victory was some much needed relief for the Eagles as it spelled an end to their three-match losing streak.

The 2-0 score doesn't really reflect how close the match was: every set was decided by three points or less. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 25-22.

Newton's offense was headlined by Allie Hermann and Hydi Bierman, who picked up six kills apiece. They got some help from Amy Shull and her nine assists. Izzy Meinhart controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

When it comes to explaining why Charleston lost, don't look at Avery Beals. Despite the final result, she had 16 digs. Beals has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more digs the last 16 times she's played.

Newton's win bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Charleston, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-12.

Newton wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 2-0 victory against Casey-Westfield on the 18th. As for Charleston, they have also already played their next match, a 2-0 defeat against Effingham on the 18th.
