The Muncy Indians will head out on the road to challenge the South Williamsport Mountaineers at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Muncy has seven straight victories, the Mountaineers have three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Saturday, Muncy didn't have too much trouble with the Tigers at home as they won 55-38. Given Muncy's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 291st, while the Tigers are ranked 680th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Patrick Zalonis, who scored 24 points along with three steals. He has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times he's played. Nathan Rogers was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, South Williamsport came up short against the Red Raiders last Saturday and fell 51-38.
Muncy's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for South Williamsport, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Muncy against the Mountaineers in their previous meeting back in January as the squad secured a 66-20 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Muncy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
