The Wheeler Lions had to start their season on the road on Thursday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They fell just short of New Milford by a score of 57-54.
New Milford got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ryder Gee out in front who scored 16 points along with five rebounds. Kelvin Mendoza was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Wheeler's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for New Milford, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wheeler will be home for the holidays to greet Putnam at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. New Milford will be home for the holidays to greet Valley Regional at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
