The Antioch Sequoits will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Grayslake North Knights at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Antioch is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Grayslake North in Illinois (Antioch is ranked 259th, while Grayslake North is ranked 567th).
After a string of five wins, Antioch's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. Their tough 57-35 defeat to Grayslake Central might stick with them for a while. Antioch was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-10.
Despite the loss, Antioch saw an underclassman step up: Heidi Rathmann scored 15 points. That was a full 42.9% of Antioch's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Adelie Gomez, who scored seven points.
Meanwhile, Grayslake North didn't have too much trouble with McHenry on the road on Monday as they won 37-21. The win was just what Grayslake North needed coming off of a 53-15 defeat in their prior matchup.
Antioch's defeat dropped their record down to 15-7. As for Grayslake North, their victory bumped their record up to 5-18.
Antioch strolled past Grayslake North in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 by a score of 44-27. Will Antioch repeat their success, or does Grayslake North have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
