Gateway Christian lost against the Denbigh Baptist Christian Minutemen back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Gateway Christian opened the new year with a less-than-successful 27-16 defeat to Denbigh Baptist Christian. Gateway Christian has struggled against Denbigh Baptist Christian recently, as their match on Friday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Gateway Christian saw an underclassman step up: Evalyn Snider scored seven points.
Denbigh Baptist Christian was led to victory by Payten Gary and Rylee Stewart. Gary scored 13 points along with three steals, while Stewart scored seven points along with eight rebounds and seven steals. Gary also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tori Carr, who scored five points along with four steals.
Gateway Christian has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season. As for Denbigh Baptist Christian, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Gateway Christian will be playing at home against Isle of Wight Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Isle of Wight Academy is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games. As for Denbigh Baptist Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against Broadwater Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Broadwater Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday.
