Gulf is 1-9 against Fivay since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Gulf Buccaneers are on the road again and play against the Fivay Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on December 7th. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Gulf struggled with assists on Wednesday (Leto had 1000% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Gulf suffered a rough 65-41 defeat at the hands of Leto. Gulf has not had much luck with Leto recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Aiden Holewski , who scored 9 points along with 8 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Long, who scored 11 points along with 8 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Fivay pushed their score all the way to 75 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 82-75 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mitchell. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Fivay came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 216th, while Mitchell is ranked 527th).
Despite the loss, Fivay saw an underclassman step up: Odell Brown scored 18 points along with 7 rebounds. Brown continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Antwan Brown was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with 6 assists and 5 rebounds.
Tampa Bay Tech's win bumped their season record to 0-0 while Gulf's loss dropped theirs to 0-2.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Gulf have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Fivay struggles in that department as they've been even better at 27.5 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Gulf was taken down by Fivay 78-40 when the teams last played back in January. Can Gulf avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
