The Northeastern Knights will challenge the Richmond Red Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Northeastern is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Northeastern made easy work of Union County and carried off an 8-1 win. The Knights haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Zella Cook made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Cook was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four stolen bases and three runs. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Karri Gammon, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2025. Kelsie Culbertson was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Richmond was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 11-10 heartbreaker at the hands of Winchester Community. On the bright side, the ten- run performance marked the Red Devils' highest-scoring matchup to date.
Richmond got a massive performance out of Macey Barker, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Barker also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Brown, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Richmond's loss dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Northeastern, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.
Richmond's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Northeastern has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Richmond, though, as they've been averaging only 3.2 strikeouts. Will Northeastern keep running through batters, or will the Red Devils buck the trend?
Northeastern got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 against Richmond by a conclusive 19-0 score. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
