BUCKEYE, Ariz. - The defense contributed on the scoring end for
Desert Edge (Goodyear, Ariz.) on Saturday, totaling 12 points as the Scorpions beat Youngker (Buckeye, Ariz.) 54-0.
After taking the lead on an
Anthony Hernandez touchdown pass to
Elijah Marks in the first quarter, the Scorpions were up 40-0 at the half.
Desert Edge grew its lead to 54 points entering the fourth quarter. DE scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by
Roshaun Johnson.
Hernandez was one of the big reasons the Goodyear school got the victory, as he threw four touchdowns.
Hernandez was the top performer for the Scorpions. He has now scored six touchdowns on the season.
Desert Edge entered the contest giving up 22.2 points per game this year. A defensively strong DE kept the Roughriders well below the 11.2 points it had been averaging per game.
The Goodyear school also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 63-14.
Youngker (1-5) goes up against Sierra Linda in a III Section VII game matchup next week, while Desert Edge (6-0) locks horns with Verrado also in a III Section VII game.
