Softball Recap: Hylton Has No Trouble Against Potomac Senior

Hylton never got on the board in their matchup on Thursday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Potomac Senior on Friday. They blew past the Panthers 13-2. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Alanis Layne made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jayel Williams, who fired off three triples, three runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alexandra Newton, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Hylton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .639. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Potomac Senior only posted an OBP of .318.

Hylton has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Potomac Senior, they dropped their record down to 3-8 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hylton will venture away from home to challenge Osbourn at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Potomac Senior, they will head out on the road to take on Woodbridge at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
