High Point extended their winning streak to seven on Wednesday, bumping their season record up to 12-2 in the process. Everything went their way against the DuVal Tigers as they made off with a 12-1 win. Considering the Eagles have won nine matches by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Yojancel Soto and Ramon Brito Jr made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Soto struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Brito Jr pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. At bat, Soto got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Brito Jr got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Wander Pe?a and Keysi Matos did most of the damage at the plate: Pe?a went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run, while Matos went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most hits Matos has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Mathew Herrera, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.
High Point was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .407 or higher in four consecutive games.
As for DuVal, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss they have suffered since May 3, 2024.
On DuVal's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ezeqiel Velez, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. High Point is set to take on their familiar foe Parkdale at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, DuVal will face off against rival Wise at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
