The Grandview Prep Pride proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 21) but on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged Spanish River out 55-53. Given Grandview Prep's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while Spanish River is ranked 528th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Xavian Charles, who scored 17 points along with four steals. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last eight games he's played. Marco Jordonne was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Several Sharks players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ethan Litten, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds. That was a full 34% of Spanish River's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Keenan Lawrence, who scored 13 points.
The victory was the third in a row for Grandview Prep, bringing their record for this year to 11-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.7 points per game. As for Spanish River, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.
Grandview Prep will head out on the road to challenge Donna Klein Jewish Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Spanish River, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Olympic Heights at 7:30 p.m. Olympic Heights is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 59 points per game.
