The result came thanks to Kayla Ortega's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ariel Arambula, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Stratford ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Cypress Falls 4-3. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Golden Eagles: they've now won five in a row.
Gwyn Katterhenry spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Brooklyn Marks was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Elizabeth McGuire, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Cypress Ridge's victory bumped their record up to 12-9. As for Stratford, their win bumped their record up to 14-9-1.
