The Alameda Pirates's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their sixth straight defeat. They fell 33-26 to Conifer. Alameda has not had much luck with the Lobos recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Alameda saw an underclassman step up: Victoria Sandoval scored six points along with two steals and two blocks. It was the first time this season that Sandoval posted two or more blocks.
Conifer found their leader in underclassman Megan Swearengin, who scored 11 points.
Alameda's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-11. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 17.3 points per game. As for Conifer, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Alameda won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Commanders at 6:00 p.m. on January 25th. Hopefully Kennedy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight last Tuesday. As for Conifer, they will head out on the road to take on the Gators at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Standley Lake is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 53.6 points per game this season.
