Holmes is 1-6 against O'Connor since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Holmes Huskies will head out on the road to face off against the O'Connor Panthers at 2:00 p.m. Holmes is hoping to put an end to a nine-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Saturday, Holmes had to suffer through a rough 69-7 loss at the hands of Brennan. While losing is never fun, Holmes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 847th, while Brennan is ranked 166th).
O'Connor fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They blew past Sotomayor 38-17.
O'Connor's win on Saturday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ryder Dorn, who threw for 238 yards and two touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes. Brayden Hennig was in the mix as well, providing O'Connor with two touchdowns.
Brennan's victory bumped their season record to 7-2 while Holmes' defeat dropped theirs to 1-8.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's game: Holmes has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 160.1 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for O'Connor, though, as they've been averaging only 84.7 per game. How will O'Connor fare against such a dominant running game?
Holmes lost to O'Connor on the road by a decisive 28-10 margin in their previous matchup back in November of 2022. Can Holmes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
