Wray hasn't had much luck against Limon recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Eagles will head out to challenge the Badgers at 10:00 a.m. Wray is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.
Wray's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 victory over Goodland. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since March 25th.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Limon, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They blew past St. Mary's 15-0 on Wednesday. The Badgers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.
Brooks Scherrer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Limon is 5-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 7-8 otherwise. Scherrer was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Braxten Churchwell, who went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Limon is undefeated when Churchwell posts two or more runs, but 8-9 otherwise. Logan Haflich was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Limon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .538. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.
Wray pushed their record up to 9-10 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Limon, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 12-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wray has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Limon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Wray suffered a grim 10-4 defeat to Limon when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
