Crean Lutheran has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on The Cypress Centurions at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Crean Lutheran fell victim to Tustin's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. Their tough 21-0 defeat to the Tillers might stick with them for a while. Having soared to a lofty 42 points in the game before, Crean Lutheran couldn't push the score so high this time.
Meanwhile, Cypress had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They blew past Valencia, posting a 42-14 win on the road. The result was nothing new for Cypress, who have now won three contests by 28 points or more so far this season.
Aidan Houston was the offensive standout of the matchup as he threw for 185 yards and two touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes. Matthew Baldonado got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Cypress' win bumped their season record to 5-3 while Crean Lutheran's loss dropped theirs to 6-2.
Saturday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Crean Lutheran has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 148.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Cypress struggles in that department as they've been even better at 157.1 per game. It's looking like Saturday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Crean Lutheran was taken down by Cypress 42-6 when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Crean Lutheran, Matthew Morrell (who picked up 103 receiving yards and a touchdown, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
