Derek Tonjes continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 331 yards and four TDs while completing 76.9% of his passes. He has been hot, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last six times he's played. Ashland-Greenwood also got help from Cal Kissinger, who showed off his sure hands for 201 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Chadron played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Sidney, falling 38-14. The Cardinals haven't had much luck with the Red Raiders recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Ashland-Greenwood will have to contain Trae Owsley as he made an impact in Chadron's last game. He picked up 66 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Ashland-Greenwood's victory bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Chadron, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 6-3.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Ashland-Greenwood has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 202.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Chadron struggles in that department as they've been averaging 195.9 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Ashland-Greenwood against Chadron when the teams last played back in October of 2023, as the squad secured a 53-14 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Cardinals' Quinn Bailey, who rushed for 140 yards and two scores. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Bluejays to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
