The Southern Wells Raiders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 64-39 walloping at the hands of Union City. While losing is never fun, Southern Wells can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 424th, while Union City is ranked 200th).
Several Raiders players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cj Reber, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Chandler Oswalt, who scored 12 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Union City to victory, but perhaps none more so than Angel Nieto, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. Owen Dowler was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Southern Wells' defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Union City, their victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-2.
Southern Wells won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Randolph Southern at 4:30 p.m. on December 29, 2023. Randolph Southern is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak. Union City will finish 2023 at home by hosting Elwood at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
