A feisty cat fight will be fought as Hahnville Tigers duke it out with E.D. White Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Hahnville is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Louisiana's top teams: Mt. Carmel, who was ranked 15th at the time (Hahnville was ranked 21st). The Tigers were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Cubs on Tuesday. The win was nothing new for the Tigers as they're now sitting on four straight.
Jenna Cancienne was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Cancienne was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, Brazzi Jacob was excellent, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Addison Walton, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Hahnville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .514 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, E.D. White won against A.J. Ellender on Thursday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. Everything went the Cardinals' way against St. James as they made off with a 15-4 victory. The win continues a trend for the Cardinals in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won five in a row.
E.D. White got a massive performance out of Shelbee Gros, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Gros a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Caroline Howell, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Hahnville's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-6. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for E.D. White, their victory bumped their record up to 13-8.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hahnville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .385. However, it's not like E.D. White struggles in that department as they've averaged .342. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
