Meadville and General McLane are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Bulldogs will venture away from home to take on the Lancers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, Meadville turned things around against Fort LeBoeuf on Wednesday. They walked away with a 7-2 win over the Bison.
Meadville got a big performance out of Bradyn Miller, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most doubles Miller has posted since back in May of 2024. Aiden Kliest also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, General McLane made sure to put some runs up on the board against Corry on Thursday. The Lancers never let the Beavers get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Lancers, who have now won four games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Charlie Salvo made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kellen Chelton was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Owen Eisert, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meadville's record now sits at 5-6. As for General McLane, their record is now 6-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Meadville has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like General McLane struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Meadville suffered a grim 12-1 defeat to General McLane when the teams last played on April 12th. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
