Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Connersville). Everything went their way against the Rushville Lions on Thursday as they made off with an 18-11 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Spartans needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Zaine Bentley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his six plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Connersville got a massive performance out of Brayden Keller, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. What's more, Keller posted two RBI, the most he's had over his last 14 games. Another player making a difference was Parker Flanigan, who went 2-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Connersville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rushville only posted a batting average of .194.
Connersville's record is now 11-9. As for Rushville, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.
Connersville and Rushville could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Spartans will challenge New Palestine at 6:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (142 vs. 14). Meanwhile, Rushville (ranked 258th) will meet Batesville (ranked 26th) at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
