Mission Valley recap Oct. 3, 2012
Washington was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in Mission Valley. Earlier in the week, the Huskies triumphed over American 28-27.
Newark Memorial moved up to 348 from 462 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Cougars were able to make the jump by beating Moreau Catholic 40-7.
Mission San Jose's dynamic duo of Tamim Sarwary and James Gao proved tough for Irvington to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Sarwary threw for 239 yards and two touchdowns and Gao had 122 yards receiving. Ryan Walleman helped Mission San Jose's passing attack out by catching three balls for 64 yards.
Drew Lyell was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 15 carries, he ran for 120 yards as the Eagles lost to the Vikings. Robert Pinkney also contributed to the rushing game with 57 yards on the ground.
Mission San Jose's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Warriors feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Sarwary has thrown for 762 yards and eight touchdowns this season, while Gao has 22 catches for 267 yards. Ismail Shafi leads the league in rushing with 517 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Irvington takes on American. Zach Silvernale's team is in third place, while Bret Casey's team is in fourth place.
Newark Memorial took down the Mariners 40-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
