The St. Francis Sharks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight defeat. They were beaten by Pacific Grove 81-37. St. Francis was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-16.
St. Francis' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sam Braun, who scored 19 points. Another player making a difference was Joseph Rose, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
St. Francis struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They are winless (0-4) when they just don't pass the ball.
Pacific Grove got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Anthony Nimri out in front who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. It was the first time this season that Nimri scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriel Valencia, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds.
St. Francis has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 14 of their last 15 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-19 record this season. As for Pacific Grove, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 12-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Francis will challenge the Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Seaside has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 181 points over their last three games. As for Pacific Grove, they will head out on the road to challenge the Condors at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. North Monterey County is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home.
