The Black River Pirates lost against the Wellington Dukes back in February, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Black River was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 42-41 to Wellington. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Black River in their matchups with Wellington: they've now lost three in a row.
Wellington's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brooke Lehmkuhl, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 17 rebounds. Those 17 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabby Miller, who scored 11 points.
Black River's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Wellington, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Black River will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Firelands at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024.
