Basketball Recap: Williston Piles Up the Points Against Vanguard

Williston won the last time they faced Vanguard and things went their way on Friday too. The Williston Red Devils simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Vanguard Knights 63-28. The Red Devils have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 23 points or more this season.

Williston's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taylor Powers, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 12 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayla Coleman, who posted seven points and four steals.

Despite the defeat, Vanguard had strong showings from Sanaria Gunsby, who had six points and nine rebounds, and Jerkiah Richardson, who put up no points. Gunsby is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games she's played. Sylnya Roberson was another key player, putting up three points along with eight blocks and five rebounds.

Williston's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 32.6 points. As for Vanguard, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season.

Williston won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Lincoln at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Vanguard, they will be taking part in a tournament against North Marion at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
