Baseball Recap: Athens Extends Winning Streak to Two

Athens lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Bloomfield Hills, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's contest. The Red Hawks' pitchers stepped up to hand the Black Hawks a 12-0 shutout on Thursday. The Red Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by seven runs or more this season.

Grayson Conrad and Jack Bouren made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Conrad pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Bouren didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Conrad a new career-high in strikeouts (three). At bat, Conrad got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Bouren went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles.

In other batting news, Tyler Kennaugh was a standout: he went a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Macklin Ciurla, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Athens kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bloomfield Hills only managed four.

The win made it two in a row for Athens and bumps their season record up to 21-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Bloomfield Hills, their loss dropped their record down to 6-15.

Coming up, Athens will welcome North Farmington at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Bloomfield Hills has already played their next matchup (against West Bloomfield), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
