The Mater Dei Knights scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 65-45 margin over Riverview Gardens. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Mater Dei has managed all season.
Mater Dei was led to victory by Nick Lampe and Elliott Rakers. Lampe scored 16 points along with five assists, while Rakers dropped a double-double on 14 points and 20 rebounds. Lampe also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Conner Diekemper was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Mater Dei pushed their record up to 6-7 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.0 points per game. As for Riverview Gardens, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-6.
Mater Dei won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Red Bay at 8:30 p.m. on December 28th. Red Bay presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Mater Dei in their respective states (Red Bay is ranked 88th in Alabama, while Mater Dei is ranked 206th in Illinois). Riverview Gardens will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on University City at 6:00 p.m. on January 19, 2024.
