The Harlan Hawks will head out to square off against the Holmes Huskies at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Harlan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Harlan took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They were the clear victor by an 11-2 margin over Marshall. The Hawks haven't had any issues with the Rams recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Savannah Cuadra and Gabby Gutierrez dominated on the mound. Cuadra tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits, while Gutierrez tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, Cuadra gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in February of 2024.
On the hitting side, Lilly Campos was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. What's more, she posted two hits, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sarah Almazan, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.
Harlan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Holmes scored the most runs they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of Sotomayor by a score of 18-17.
Hannah Melendez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her six plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alison Silva, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
Harlan's record is now 7-3. As for Holmes, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-5.
Harlan might still be hurting after the 9-2 defeat they got from Holmes in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Harlan avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
