East Alton-Wood River has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will  take on the Breese Central Cougars at 4:30  p.m.  on Thursday. Both teams come into the  matchup bolstered by wins in their previous  matches.
 East Alton-Wood River scored the most  runs they've had all season to find success  on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Carlinville with a sharp  14-4 win. The  victory was just what East Alton-Wood River needed coming off of  a  12-0 defeat in their prior  game.
  Dillon Gerner and  Tim Melton did most of the damage at the plate:  Gerner  scored a  run and  stole a base while  getting on base  in all four of his plate appearances, while  Melton  scored three  runs while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was  Drake Champlin, who  scored a  run while  getting on base  in two of his four plate appearances.
 Meanwhile, Breese Central came tearing into  Tuesday's  contest with four straight wins  (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they left with even more momentum. They had just enough and edged the Midgets out  2-1.
  Easton Becker tossed a big game,   not allowing a single  earned run over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't  given up  more than two  walks in four consecutive pitching appearances.
 At the plate, Breese Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was  Benny Lehman, who  went 2-for-4 with a  stolen base.
 East Alton-Wood River's win bumped their record up to 4-8-1. As for Breese Central, they are  on a roll lately: they've  won seven of their last nine matches,  which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record  this season.
 East Alton-Wood River couldn't quite finish off Breese Central in their previous matchup  back in May of 2023 and fell  3-1. Thankfully for East Alton-Wood River,  Chase Lewis (who   didn't allow a single  earned run while striking out 11 over six innings pitched) won't be suiting up this time.
