Jackson Central Merry has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Millington Central Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Friday, Jackson Central Merry was fully in charge, breezing past Jackson North Side 60-31 at home. Given Jackson Central Merry's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 179th, while Jackson North Side is ranked 373rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Millington Central scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 81-50 victory over Bolton. Considering Millington Central has won four contests by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Millington Central can attribute much of their success to Kyla Taylor, who scored 22 points, and Alana Whiten, who scored 24 points. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Arianna Whiten, who scored 11 points.
Jackson Central Merry's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Millington Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-6 record this season.
Jackson Central Merry suffered a grim 46-20 defeat to Millington Central when the teams last played back in January of 2016. Can Jackson Central Merry avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
