Whitley County has won three straight games at home, while South Laurel has won three straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Monday. The Colonels will welcome the Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
13 must be Whitley County's lucky number: they beat Prestonsburg with that score not once but twice on Saturday. The Colonels beat the Blackcats by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 13-2. The Colonels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.
Clint Partin looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, RJ Osborne and Spencer Bargo did most of the damage at the plate: Osborne went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Bargo got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave Bargo a new career-high. Henry Bowling was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, South Laurel was able to grind out a solid win over Rockcastle County on Friday, taking the game 11-6. The victory continues a trend for the Cardinals in their matchups with the Rockets: they've now won three in a row.
Will Alsip was excellent, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs. Another player making a difference was Austin Byrd, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
South Laurel always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rockcastle County only posted an OBP of .310.
Whitley County is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games. As for South Laurel, their victory bumped their record up to 13-1.
Everything went Whitley County's way against South Laurel when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Whitley County made off with an 11-3 win. Do the Colonels have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cardinals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
