The Monroe Central Seminoles will challenge the Frontier Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Monroe Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.5 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, Monroe Central came up short against Martins Ferry and fell 12-8.
Kamryn Winland was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and one stolen base. Those triples were her first of the season. Jadyn Miller was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Meanwhile, Frontier had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They put the hurt on Valley with a sharp 20-5 win on Saturday.
Mikayla Bennett made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Frontier got a massive performance out of Kate Congleton, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave Congleton a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kenzie Livingston, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Frontier always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Frontier's victory bumped their record up to 10-13. As for Monroe Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Monroe Central hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like Frontier struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Monroe Central got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in March against Frontier by a conclusive 11-2 score. Will the Seminoles repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
