After flying high against the Pleasant Ridge Rams last Wednesday, the Oskaloosa Bears came back down to earth. Oskaloosa was just a bucket shy of victory on Monday and fell 51-50 to Jackson Heights. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Oskaloosa of the 61-54 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Oskaloosa lost, one person who can't be blamed is Trenten Vanhoutan. Despite the final result, he scored 18 points. Another player making a difference was Gunner Rockhold, who scored seven points.
Oskaloosa's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Jackson Heights, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-5-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oskaloosa's road trip will continue as they head out to face Atchison-Maur Hill-Mount Academy on February 6th. Atchison-Maur Hill-Mount Academy is coming into the game with six straight victories at home, so Oskaloosa is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. As for Jackson Heights, they will head out on the road to challenge Pleasant Ridge at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Jackson Heights is facing Pleasant Ridge at the right time seeing as Pleasant Ridge is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
