Sylvan-Lucas is 8-2 against Pike Valley since December of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Sylvan-Lucas Mustangs will be home for the holidays to greet the Pike Valley Panthers at 6:00 p.m. Sylvan-Lucas will be strutting in after a win while Pike Valley will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Tuesday, everything came up roses for Sylvan-Lucas on the road against Lincoln as the team secured a 49-13 win. Given Sylvan-Lucas' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 136th, while Lincoln is ranked 274th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Pike Valley, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 50-33 loss to Axtell on Tuesday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Pike Valley has scored all season.
Pike Valley's defeat came about despite a quality game from Breanna Reeves, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Reeves scored a full 54.5% of Pike Valley's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Pike Valley struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Sylvan-Lucas now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Pike Valley, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Sylvan-Lucas took their victory against Pike Valley when the teams last played back in January by a conclusive 56-31. Does Sylvan-Lucas have another victory up their sleeve, or will Pike Valley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
