The Manteo Redskins's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their eighth straight loss. They took a hard 50-32 fall against First Flight. While losing is never fun, Manteo can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 431st, while the Nighthawks are ranked 127th).
Manteo's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was CC Lowe, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Marcia McIntyre was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds and three steals.
First Flight was led to victory by Hailey Stanley and Abby Miles. Stanley scored 11 points along with eight rebounds, while Miles scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. It was the first time this season that Miles scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Summer Stevens, who scored four points along with ten rebounds and two steals.
Manteo dropped their record down to 4-11 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home. As for First Flight, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Manteo will face off against the Knights at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Arianna White and Sydnee Ballance. As for First Flight, they will head out on the road to square off against the Bruins at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Camden County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Tuesday.
