1A-1 Region III District 9 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Joaquin extended the longest winning streak in 1A-1 Region III District 9 this week by beating Elkhart, 46-21. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Big Sandy moved up to 734 from 835 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 49-26 win over Maud helped the Wildcats improve their standing.
Carlisle's dynamic duo of Gunner Baker and Jared Poncho proved tough for Cayuga to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Baker threw for 112 yards and one touchdown and Poncho had 47 yards receiving. Caleb Colley helped Carlisle's passing attack out by catching two balls for 34 yards.
Wyatt Hairgrove was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 18 carries, he ran for 216 yards as Joaquin bested the Wildcats. Teammate Will Vaughn added to the ground attack by rushing for 94 yards.
Carlisle's Baker and Poncho have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 1A-1 Region III District 9 in both passing and receiving yards. Baker has thrown for 475 yards this season, while Poncho, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 12 catches for 215 yards. Hairgrove from Wayne Gandy's team leads the league in rushing with 720 yards.
Timpson took down Burkeville 55-14 last week, the largest margin of any game.
