Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in prep basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2023-24 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Amir Jenkins of
North (Worcester) is the 2023-24 Massachusetts MaxPreps Player of the Year. The 6-foot-1 junior guard led the Polar Bears to a 24-0 record and second consecutive Division 1 state championship.
For the season, Jenkins averaged 13.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.6 steals per contest to help North extend its winning streak to 45 games dating back to last season.
Jenkins elevated his play in crucial moments during the postseason. He scored eight of his 14 points in overtime of a state semifinal win over Xaverian Brothers (Westwood) and produced team-highs of 21 points and seven assists in a 59-53 victory over Franklin in the championship game.
Days after leading North to the state title, Jenkins received his first scholarship offer from NCAA Division II Assumption College.
