The Durand Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 71-26 defeat at the hands of Aquin Catholic. While losing is never fun, Durand can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 519th, while Aquin Catholic is ranked 124th).
Durand's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Reagan McCallips, who scored nine points along with three steals, and Rhiannon Robertson who scored two points along with five rebounds. McCallips scored a full 34.6% of Durand's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
It was another big night for Paityn London, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds for Aquin Catholic. London is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Hanna Broge was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five assists and five steals.
Durand bumped their record down to 5-8 with that loss, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 14.3 points per game. As for Aquin Catholic, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-4.
Durand will be playing at home against Dakota at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Dakota focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Saturday. Aquin Catholic won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Eastland at 3:00 p.m. on January 6th. One thing working in Eastland's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three contests.
