Northern Indiana recap November 5, 2013
Penn added to the longest winning streak in Northern Indiana this week by beating Chesterton, 30-0. The win marks 11th in a row for the the Kingsmen.
Penn took down the Trojans 30-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
South Bend Washington's dynamic duo of Tyler White and Antwon Ivery proved to be unstoppable against South Bend St. Joseph, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. White threw for 222 yards and 2 touchdowns and Ivery had 86 yards receiving. Christian Campbell helped South Bend Washington's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 64 yards.
He went 12-26 with 2 interceptions.
Tajah Smith was a force in the backfield as the Indians topped the Panthers.
Smith provided a threat through the air and on the ground as South Bend St. Joseph bested South Bend Washington. Smith's key target this week was Denton Gillis, who caught 2 passes for 38 yards.
Tony Fair was a key player and the best on defense this week as Jay Johnson's team fell to Ben Downey's team. The 6-foot-3 defensive lineman racked up 1 sack.
The Indians' Matthew Monserez and Gillis have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-6 quarterback Monserez has thrown for 2,334 yards this season, while Gillis has 47 catches for 791 yards. Elkhart Central's Joe Phillips leads the league in rushing yards with 1,138.
Mishawaka made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 1,991 from 2,492. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 27-0 victory over South Bend Adams last week.
