The result came thanks to Sophia Galligan's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Columbia saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addie Angelo, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave Angelo a new career-high.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Averill Park's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Colonie Central by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Warriors have suffered since April 10th.
Averill Park also got a good showing from Ellie Lindow, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Natalia Mancino was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Averill Park's defeat dropped their record down to 13-4. As for Columbia, their victory bumped their record up to 12-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Columbia hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Averill Park struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs.
