Chester hasn't had much luck against Burney recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Volcanoes will take on the Raiders at 4:00 p.m. One thing working in Chester's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four matchups.
Chester is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Plumas Charter 13-2. The Volcanoes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 contests by seven runs or more this season.
Hailey Delong made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jenna Schlueter, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Addisen Nashlund was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four runs and one RBI.
Chester always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .562 or higher in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Burney entered their matchup against Los Molinos last Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Raiders lost 11-2 to the Bulldogs. Having soared to a lofty 19 runs in the game before, the Raiders couldn't push the score so high this time.
Chester is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Burney, their loss dropped their record down to 17-8-2.
Burney's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Chester has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Burney, though, as they've been averaging only 4.1 strikeouts. Will Chester keep running through batters, or will the Raiders buck the trend?
