Pearl and West Lincoln are an even 3-3 against one another since March of 2021, but likely not for long. The Pirates will head out on the road to square off against the Bears at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Pearl will be strutting in after a victory while West Lincoln will be coming in after a defeat.
Pearl came out on top against Richland on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run second inning. The Pirates put the hurt on the Rangers with a sharp 8-2 win. The victory continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Rangers: they've now won five in a row.
The team relied heavily on Lauryn Lee, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlynn Chappell, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
Pearl hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, West Lincoln scored first but ultimately less than West Marion in their contest last Thursday. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Bears have suffered since February 25, 2025.
Caroline Hedgepeth put in work no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Hedgepeth was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
Hedgepeth wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brooklyn Huey, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that Huey has snagged this season. Kaylee Wallace was another, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Pearl's win bumped their record up to 8-4. As for West Lincoln, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-2.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Pearl hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like West Lincoln struggles in that department as they've averaged .368. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Pearl's way against West Lincoln when the teams last played back in February of 2025, as Pearl made off with a 15-4 victory. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bears turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
